ENROLLMENT IN WELCOME HOME
To begin, please submit your application to participate in the program. The application forms are online or may be downloaded and printed out for you to complete. 

Associated fees to participate in program:

One applicant: $25 Two applicants (buying home together): $50

The Welcome Home program is divided into two courses: Financial Wellness and Home Buying 101. Participants must attend four Financial Wellness Classes and two Home Buying 101 Classes. The courses are directed by certified counselors and are held every month. All registration fees for the program must be paid in advance, the classes are free to attend and must be completed in order to move forward in the program.

Registration fees may be paid for in advance online or by bringing a check to the class.   

PHASE 1: CREATING A SOLID FOUNDATION | Financial Wellness (Classes 1 – 4)

A part of the Welcome Home program, comprehensive personal financial education classes are offered to empower you with the knowledge and skills to take control of your financial future. Our classes cover a wide range of essential topics, including budgeting, saving, investing, debt management, and retirement planning. Taught by experienced financial experts, the classes offer practical advice, interactive workshops, and real-world examples to help you make informed decisions and achieve your financial goals. 

Whether you’re just starting out or looking to enhance your financial literacy, our program provides the tools and confidence you need to build a secure and prosperous future.

PHASE 2: NAVIGATING THE LOAN AND GRANT PROCESS | Home Buying 101 (Class 1)

Navigating the loan and grant process in buying a home can be complex, but with the right guidance, it becomes a manageable and rewarding journey. Our program provides step-by-step support to help you understand and access various loan options, including conventional mortgages, FHA loans, and VA loans. We also assist in identifying and applying for grants and down payment assistance programs that can make homeownership more affordable. From understanding eligibility criteria to completing applications, our team is dedicated to simplifying the process and helping you secure the best financial assistance to achieve your dream of owning a home.

PHASE 3: WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE CLOSING | Home Buying 101 (Class 2)

Closing day is the final and most exciting step in your home buying journey. It’s the day when ownership of the property officially transfers to you, and you get the keys to your new home. Our comprehensive course and Welcome Home checklist provided to each participant will provide all the information you need to be fully prepared for this crucial moment. With support from a Midtown housing counselor, you can confidently navigate closing day and celebrate the start of your new chapter as a homeowner.

PHASE 4: HOMEOWNER FIX-IT CLASSES (Ongoing Classes offered by Midtown CDC)

You have made the single largest investment in your future. What do you do when there’s a plumbing leak?  

Midtown’s hands-on classes will cover a wide range of essential repair techniques, from fixing leaky faucets and patching drywall to electrical troubleshooting and basic carpentry. Taught by experienced professionals, these classes provide practical training, safety tips, and expert advice to help you maintain and improve your home. Whether you’re a new homeowner or looking to enhance your DIY skills, our program offers the tools and guidance you need to handle repairs efficiently and effectively.
